Bill Murray’s character presents himself with disapproval to everyone he is confronted with, when he is assigned to cover the annual Groundhogs Day festival in Punxsutawney, he merely wants to escape the assignment. As he continues to treat those around him with dismay he finds himself entering an unusual twilight zone between reality and time as he wakes up to the radio playing “I Got You Babe” by Sonny & Cher only to realize the radio is announcing the local holiday, Groundhogs Day. Every day Phil wakes up and the world around him is stuck on a loop of the same day, with the same events, and the same consequences each day to the point where Phil questions his psychological state of mind, and looses his own conscience for basic humanitarian responsibilities. Phil begins to act irrational by planning bank robberies, confiding in unromantic acts only to fall in love with a coworker who looks at Phil and only sees the disapproving individual he had been his entire time working. Phil becomes depressed, and attempts to commit suicide several times, only to wake up to Sunny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe” at 6am everyday to relive Groundhogs Day cycle. The never-ending time loop eventually causes Phil’s self realization and path to embracing the ideals of kindness that he had previously lacked, ultimately ending the time
