3 ½ years ago I was in the kitchen and my mom said “can you please go upstairs and get the laundry?” So I went up stairs to get it and I brought it back down. I gave the basket to my sister and she went on the third step and rode down. I thought she rode the whole way down so I wanted to do it. I took the basket and walked up the stairs and I sat in the cold, hard, plastic basket and started to slide down the stairs. I started to get up when I was on the last four steps so my feet was in the front. I slide into the kitchen table.

I was getting out and I stepped on my left foot and it hurt. I started crying and my mom looked at my foot and it was blue. She took me to the emergency room and we were there from 8:45 to 6:30 in the morning. Finally

As a kid, I had no responsibilities other than school, and sometimes sports. I was fortunate enough to not have to do chores, or have a job at an early age. I essentially, could manage my time how I pleased; playing Xbox, baseball, being on my phone whenever, as long as I kept my grades up and wasn't in trouble. My parents gave me this privilege, because they knew what a well-behaved kid I was, and somehow trusted that my Dad’s work ethic would eventually just naturally rub off on me when the time was right. Although my experience sounds great, I felt empty, because I wasn't doing anything productive.…

We began as I believe all days should begin; in the presence of the Lord. After a talk and prayer, we headed off; some of us on busses and some in cars. I had picked to go to the Food Pantry the Tuesday before, although I did not foresee any of the events that would happen there at that time. I had thought it’d be some gigantic warehouse with food stacked on shelves and we would have to move it out of there to an even more gigantic warehouse. This was not the case.…

As the red numbers of the blocky alarm clock changed from 8:59 to 9:00 o’clock I exclaimed for the hundredth time, “Can we go the store yet!” Dad responded in a annoyed voice, “ YES, now will you quit asking me.” My siblings and I giddily ran down the steps of our apartment to our vehicle.…

I don’t remember much about that day, but what I remember is that we decided it would be a fun idea to ride my cousin’s dog, Daisy. Daisy was a small, wrinkled bulldog. I guess we didn’t know at the time that it is not okay to ride dogs. Thank goodness we were small children. While I was riding daisy, I hit my knee off of the edge of the uncovered metal box spring of the bed.…

One of my mother’s greatest prides in life was her family. You could tell she was delighted in her close knit family by how she greeted everyone who wandered through the door. Throughout the day, countless family members would make their way in and out of my house, or what it was commonly called, Oak Street Deli. My cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents would stop by to get a second opinion of a major, or minor, life event from my mother then grab a bite to eat. When one would open the front door of our bungalow, they would be greeted with the smell of that night's dinner, my mother’s laugh bouncing off the walls, and a sense of belonging.…

I had just finished after school choir practice and was riding my bike home when, as I was crossing the street a car came around the bend really fast and didn’t look around and it hit me and ran over my legs.
