The Grocery Manufacter's Association has a huge roll in the food industry as it is a trade association for many foods and beverages. The company was founded in March of 1908. It was created when multiple food comapnies came together to discuss how they would continue to keep running their companies with the new law that were made. Their mission is to fight against GMO labeling as they feel that forcing them to label GMO's would give the wrong impression. Individuals can sign up to show support for the IDFA as well but only companies who have memberships with the IDFA can have a say and make an impact on the company. The company is run by their president named Connie Tipton. The IDFA is a non-profit organization. They get their money from memberships with other companies. In 2013, they brought in about $7.8 million in revenue. They spent $7.4 million in expenses on things such as grants and salaries. The IDFA influences the government by joining the GMA in their case against Act 120 in Vermont. Like GMA, the IDFA also believes that GMO labeling may lead to false speculation and portray the wrong idea on GMO's. The CFS' main goal is so try and prevent companies from using GMO's and to keep everything in their food products "All natural" for its consumers. They are going to try and achieve this goal by advertising about GMO labeling to the public and campaign about it hoping to make the FDA pass GMO laws and regulations. In order to become a member of the Center for Food Safety organization, one must go to their website, sign up, and join. The organization does not mind who joins, as long as you are pro-GMO labeling and will be willing to help spread the word about GMO labeling and help support the Vermont legislature as they fight this battle against GMA.
