Groceries-Personal Narrative

Great Essays
It was November 8th, 2013. I was lying face down on the ground with my face down, with my hands on my head, that’s what the guy in the ski-mask, holding a gun, told me to do. But don’t let me get ahead of myself. I was going to the bank for my grandma. She needed me to take money out of my account so we could get some groceries. I’ve lived with her for about 7 years now. She’s all the family I have left. I got up early, and got around, did my chores, made breakfast and then got ready to head to the bank. It was a Saturday morning, and the weather was nice. Too nice to be November I thought, but I was glad. It rained last night, but it was sunny today. I was walking along the sidewalk, heading to the bank. My mouth was covered in duct tape and my head was throbbing. I wasn’t scared. They haven’t killed me yet so maybe I could leave from this and be okay. I then thought about my grandma. And about how worried she must be. And as I was thinking, I heard the door open and I saw some light come in, along with a man in a ski-mask. I thought it was one of the “bad” men. But it wasn’t. This man bent down and started to untie me from the chair. He let my arms go, and i took the tape off my mouth and asked where I was. He didn’t answer. He picked up this towel thing and started to wipe my face with it. He then said this, “When I tell you to run, you have to run as fast as you can. I will meet you back outside. Run all the way out until you seen a street. The first street you see, there will be a car. Get in that car. Okay? Do you understand?” I nodded, but I was still confused on to who this man was, but I was going to listen to him. He then put his mask back on and stood up, and walked back over to the door, opened it and yelled “She’s gone. Go look for her, hurry!!” I then was startled by the footsteps of men that was coming from upstairs. This man then told me to jump out this window that was in the hall and climb down the fire escape and run. And so I did. I ran as fast as I could and I started to hear gunshots and screaming. I kept running. I got to the street and was getting closer to the car when a loud explosion happened and it made me fall down. I hit my head again, and fell to the ground. I was dizzy and my vision was fuzzy and the last thing i remember seeing was some man’s back shoes walking towards

We began as I believe all days should begin; in the presence of the Lord. After a talk and prayer, we headed off; some of us on busses and some in cars. I had picked to go to the Food Pantry the Tuesday before, although I did not foresee any of the events that would happen there at that time. I had thought it’d be some gigantic warehouse with food stacked on shelves and we would have to move it out of there to an even more gigantic warehouse. This was not the case.…
