Grit Paragraph
What the Packers did in this game is true grit. There was two minutes left in the game the Packers down by 2. The Lions fans are in the crowd cheering because they think they have already won. The packers have been pushing up the field for a while and they have time for just one more play. They are at the 40 yard line on their side of the field and they have to go 60 yards to get a touchdown. Aaron Rodgers (the quarterback of the Packers) looks around ready to snap the ball. There is no time on the clock and this is the Packers last chance. Aaron with sweat dripping down his face, and knowing he could do it, and believing in himself said the sacred words to snap the ball. The ball went into the swirly air and into his sweaty

Within the last minute and a half the Vikings had possession of the ball and shot up a quick shot only to miss it. As Avila took possession they turned the ball over before making it back to their half of the court. As Vikings stole the ball and with 10 seconds left attempted to shoot the ball for one last shot the ball bounced right off the rim and back out into Avila’s hands. The Eagles quickly set up a play to win the game with 3.5 seconds to spare. “I think we need to work on finishing strong when we are in tough situations,” said Bailee Arnburg, sophomore guard of the Vikings team.…

Sitting in the confines of the Miller's Ale House in Tallahassee, I positioned myself in perfect position: on the outside seat of the long, wood bench seat in perfect view of the matchup between the undefeated Green Bay Packers -- my team -- and the San Diego Chargers. In closer proximity was my feast. Nachos piled high with cheese, sour cream, jalapenos, chicken and salsa; cheese curds, a Wisconsin favorite and a tall glass of Angry Orchard hard cider. I set my self up dressed in my old-school, long-sleeved Ray Nietzsche jersey in honor of the throwback jerseys the Pack was wearing from the 1930's and 40's. Soon kick off was upon us.…

In football the money quarter is the 4th it's when heroes are made or goats to blame. Sunday quarterback Cam Newton engineered two touchdowns in the final four minutes to seal this victory. Put it in perspective, Newton was 12 for 15 162 yards and the game-winning strike to tight end Greg Olsen with 32 seconds left. My favorite part about this whole thing is the fact that Newton is staying in the pocket looking downfield and trusting his wide receivers not just using his legs to burn defenses. It's so much fun to see his maturity and football IQ continuing to rise every game he threw some absolute frozen ropes where only our receivers could catch them.…

When you think of an NFL quarterback, one might assume that all quarterbacks were adept at football their entire life. In most instances that may be true, but for Ben Roethlisberger his chance to shine came almost never came to be. However, we know his chance came otherwise I wouldn’t be here writing about him. In this essay we will take a look at the legacy Roethlisberger has made for himself. All stories have a beginning and ours starts on March 2, 1982 in Lima, Ohio.…

As much as I dislike the Green Bay Packers, and Brett Favre as an athlete, this speech has to be the best retirement speech I’ve seen. Brett Favre, 20 year veteran of the NFL. It all started with us talking around a group of friends. We talk about sports often and dispute about very many things. The topics most likely relate to sports whether it be NBA matchups, one-on-one matchups. Others include NFL topics such as who will win the super bowl and who are the best players at each position. One day when we were talking at lunch one of my friends said that the Atlanta Falcons Defense is under-rated.…

Alright. I'm just going to address the elephant in the room. The Packers lost Aaron Rodgers today -- possibly, for the remainder of the season -- and it just so happens a 29 year-old unsigned free-agent, who threw 16 TD's to 4 INT's last year is still looking for a team to play on. Also, he grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Loved watching the Packers as a child and idolized Brett Favre. Packer fans and Ted Thompson: let's sign Colin Kaepernick to the…

Money Pit “It’s reminiscent of a shark that will die if it doesn’t keep moving and ripping little fish to shreds”, says Mark Lebovich of the New York Times. American Football has become a religion. American Football is everywhere and seems to be governed by some Constitution-like power. “The sport provides a belief system at a time when faith in so many community institutions - government, religion, actual families – is weakening.” Currently the league faces many challenges such as player health and safety, drop in youth-football participation, lawsuits and keeping the model that football was built on alive.…

Global Effects The Super Bowl utter dominance within the U.S. fails to translate onto the international stage. It is behind a number of sports, such as soccer, rugby, even cricket. It’s American-centric base excludes the rest of the world, as other countries are much more focused on sports where their own people are competing. Even when referring to the sport, one must say “American Football”, rather than just football, as the rest of the world uses that term for soccer.…
