We’ve all heard the quotes about success: “Successful people don’t become that way overnight,” “your true success in life begins only when you make the commitment to become excellent at what you do,” “what separates the talented ones from the successful ones is a lot of hard work,” but which ones should we believe? There must be a happy medium; a universal definition for success. Grit, a novel written by Angela Duckworth, defines success as something we must obtain through a “never give up” attitude. She values motivation over a natural talent, because those with the motivation are more often successful compared to those with talents, who may not strive to improve on their innate abilities.
