No matter the language or the country, news media plays an important role within society. How the news is delivered can change a person’s way of thinking towards any subject, especially immigration, as told in a paper co-written by Celeste González de Bustamante about Arizona’s policies towards immigrants and the media’s reaction to these changes. Immigration is neither a new topic of discussion nor exclusive to Arizona or the United States. How the topic is discussed can make a difference between whether people think criminals or people desperate to find a safer home are crossing our borders. While working with Noticas at the University of Florida, I had the opportunity to discuss with Anna Ochoa O’Leary the increase in unaccompanied minors entering the U.S and the dangers they face along the way. When it comes to immigration, the news often focuses on the act itself and the political indecisiveness surrounding it rather than the reasons behind the act.
