“ You don’t really need someone to complete you. You only need someone to accept you completely.” (Disney Rapunzel). “Rapunzel” is a folktale first recorded by Jacob and Wilhelm. The Grimm Brothers wrote the story Children and Household Tales. “ Rapunzel” got published in 1812 for Children and Household Tales. Also, “ Rapunzel” is the most mysterious and enduring of all fairy tales. “ Rapunzel has been inspired by a different story, is more violent than the modern version, has a certain culture, and was meant more for adults. The Grimm Brother’s story of “ Rapunzel” had been influenced by an earlier story before the Grimm Brothers started writing. For example, this quote says, “The Grimms’ ‘ Rapunzel’ for example was derived from a story …show more content…
For example, this quote says, “Afterward, she tricked the prince into climbing the tower and throws him out where he lands on thorns that put out his eyes.” (“Rapunzel”). In Tangled, the witch doesn't do such a violent thing by pushing him out a tower and then making him blind from thorns. She tries to kill him but then, she trips on Rapunzel’s hair, falls out of the tower, and then the only thing that’s left of her is her cloak because she disintegrated when she died. Also, the movie doesn’t show as much violence so kids will be able to handle the little violence in Tangled. Another quote says, “ The king’s son riding through the countryside discovers Rapunzel, climbs her hair to the tower, marries, and helps her plan an escape but Mother Gothel learns of it, cuts Rapunzel’s hair, and hides her in the woods” (“Rapunzel”). In the movie, Mother Gothel doesn’t cut Rapunzel’s hair. Flynn Rider, the person who is a thief , replaces the prince, and is in love with Rapunzel, accidentally cut off all her hair with a piece of glass. Also, Mother Gothel, the witch, doesn’t hide Rapunzel in the woods because instead, she lets Rapunzel stay in the tower but ties up Rapunzel and then waits for Flynn Rider to come up so she can kill him. Finally, this quote says, “ After a year as wandering as a beggar, the prince finds Rapunzel, who now has …show more content…
Their tales show that they were originally meant for adults by how it says, “ The Grimms had their own editing practices: they reduced the love and upped the violence” (“The Cinderella No One Knows: Incest, Fur, and Hidden Bodies”). They also did some inappropriate things that kids didn’t know about. Also, the violence made it worse because kids handle violence less than adults. Another example says, “ In their 1812 ‘Rapunzel’ for example, the witch learns about prince’s visit when Rapunzel asks why her dress is so tight. She’s pregnant.” That shows that there was something going on when the prince was up in the tower with Rapunzel while the witch was gone. The prince married Rapunzel before even though they haven’t figured out how to get out of the tower. So, that means Rapunzel got pregnant while being stuck in the tower. Finally, this quotes proves that the stories were originally meant for adults by how it says, “Also, the Grimms deemphasized magic. And, they changed mothers into stepmothers. After all, how would it look to have German mothers killing their children and the like?” (“The Cinderella No One Knows: Incest, Fur, and Hidden Bodies”). This quote shows the violence some of the stories have. The Grimm Brothers have a story that talks about German stepmothers killing their own stepchildren. Even though the Grimm Brother's stories were not meant for little children to read, it's meant

I know it sound juvenile, but if I could be one character from a movie it would be Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled. At the end of the animated movie, Rapunzel is reunited with her parents the King and Queen of Corona and the audience sees the whole family dancing in the middle of the square with all of the citizens. I know it is every little girl’s dream, but I have always wanted to be a Princess. When you are a princess, you get to live happily ever after with a wonderful prince and you never have to worry about taxes, college, or getting a job. Princesses are also listened to; they have the power to really change what they think is unjust in the world.…

They’re also both in those rough situations because of someone else’s actions and not their own, Rapunzel’s father stealing from the enchantress and Argos’ rebellions against the gods. They don’t have many differences except that Andromeda is on the verge of dying right before the hero saves her while Rapunzel just lives a miserable…

No author is better celebrated in the fairytale world today than the Grimm brothers, whose publication of countless preexisting fairytales marked the fairytale genres transition from storytelling into literary text. Recognized as the standard source upon which our societies knowledge of German folklore is based (The Reception of Grimm Fairy Tales), the final edition of their work published remains ever present an influence for both readers and collectors alike. Yet, the translation of their work that remains in publication and is praised by society today is not how they originally intended for their work to appear. When Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their first edition of a two-volume set of German fairytales titled “Children and Household Tales” in 1812, they didn’t shy from intensifying the gore and sexual intrigue that the stories they collected already exhibited. Originally voiced in a manor that would teach critical lessons and pass on cultural values and wisdom to younger generations, fairytales were crafted into dark and impressive stories meant to frighten children into compliance (Societies Influence on Grimms Fairytales).…

Comparing “The Story of the Grandmother” to “The Little Red Riding Hood”, it is clear that Perrault and other authors worked to make the tale more child-friendly and teach lessons. The folklorists in earlier eras did not care about teaching children manners or lessons, and there was not “a wall for sexuality between children and adults” like there is today. (Tatar, “Big Bad Wolf Reconsidered”) Excluding the cannibalism and the systematic striptease from his version, it is evident that Perrault wanted to spare the child’s innocence. The Grimm Brothers went even further by “erasing all traces of the erotic playfulness found in ‘The Story of the Grandmother’”…

The Grimm Brother’s fairy tales are one of the few pieces of craftful literature that continues to prevail from the time they were written to today, with the utmost popularity. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm have written the majority of fairy tales and princess stories that every generation since the 1800s have embedded in our childhoods, from Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, Cinderella, and even Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. The modern Disney classic Snow White was originally written by the Grimm Brothers in 1812, and was entitled Tale 53. Later, the story was revised and republished in 1854 as Little Snow-white, with changes in the story reflecting the social changes of the time. Born in Hanau, Germany, the Grimm Brother’s fairy tales cast light on the…

The Brother Grimm’s version of Cinderella has hidden meanings in the stories that teach us about how the story resembles or symbolize our society. The first symbol in the story that stood out to me the most is the stepsisters representing society 's cruelness and greed. The second symbol was the stepmother’s envy of Cinderella 's beauty, because Cinderella was more beautiful than her daughter 's. The stepmother thought that her daughter’s were not as beautiful as Cinderella and as a result she was envious of Cinderella, this represent a society dominated by envy and hate. The third symbol is the hazel tree that provided Cinderella with the wisdom and inspiration to overcome the abuse she was going through, this represents how society rewards…

Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm was popularly known as the “Grimms Brothers”, were characterized as one of the most dramatic writers in the 19th century. They were categorized by their short, simple sentences, colloquial language, and their well-organized approach to craft writings. Their writing was entitled Little Snow White, it was released in 1937 and it was about Snow White, a princess who falls into a deep, death-like rest after taking a bite from a poisoned apple. My impression about this narrative was an innocent little girl who had her step-mother hating her because of her beauty and kind-heart. The Little Snow-White by the Grimms Brothers is a fairy tale that reveals the goodness and the beauty of a little princess who is loved by all, however,…

In the Grimm’s brother’s version, the folktale ended violently and fiercely because “the two step-sister’s eyes were pecked out by pigeons for their wickedness and falsehood” and they were blind as long as they lived. According to Maria Tatar the author of numerous articles on fairy tales and also ten scholarly books, “fairy tales have modeled behavioral codes and development paths, even as they provide us with terms for thinking about what happens in our world”…

Charles Perrault’s “Little Red Riding Hood” and Brothers Grimm’s “Hansel and Gretel” are two well-known fairytales in today’s society. Both tales incorporate the key literary elements that define a typical fairy tale. The significance in these specific elements comes from the effect they have on the plot and the consequential moral of the tale. Although “Little Red Riding Hood and “Hansel and Gretel” are two texts with distinct differences regarding their plots, the characters, setting, and themes incorporated into both respective tales relate closely to each other. These similarities largely identify the shared intention of the fairy tale authors for creating their individual tale and the significance of the certain themes and morals that…

“Cinderella is the most well known fairy tale in the world, with almost 700 documented versions, with the oldest dating back to 850 AD in China” (Parsons; 143). This shows that almost everyone around the world has heard some form of the tale of Cinderella, and has been influenced by the tale. Authors Allan Lazar, Dan Karlan, and Jeremy Salter write that the tale of Cinderella has developed over the centuries, but the story that is commonly known today was written from oral tradition in the early 1600s by Charles Perrault, a Frenchman. It was later brought to a larger audience through the medium of film, produced by Walt Disney. “Cinderella was a written from a series of oral accounts.…
