Grimm's Household Tales

The Grimm’s “Household Tales” can be considered reflections of Herder’s idea because the two based their stories off of “the old German Literature.” Just in the required readings alone, you witness cruelty, but always endure a happy or joyful ending. The Grimm’s told their stories in the form of pride to portray the nature of German identity. When they took this approach, they were adding education for the people, language, religion, and giving the background of society during that time. Just like they demonstrated in their lives, the original is the introduction. Sexuality and child abuse is seen in their stories, but not in the sense of something bad…but in the sense of that is something that occurs and should not be ignored. Living in a time that they did, one could only imagine the adversity and challenges faced. They make clear that their work is innovative and can share a piece of history with children or adults. The Grimm brother’s ideal outlook of a nation is one that is defiant and is shaped purely around laws, ethics, culture, and tradition. It says in Once Upon A Time, by Joan Acocella that, “They merely concretize and then expand our experience of life.” I agree with this! Readers or anyone for that fact do not want to be limited on what they can have or achieve. People want to be able to step outside the box and “live the good life” per say. A good ruler in their case would be someone is honest, educated, and determined. As for the people and how they should interact, I think a diverse group would serve just well. Different races, different cultures, and different beliefs play an important role. When you can reach out to multiple people and not just one type of group, you are more efficient and effective. Being a student at TWU, I am a woman and business major. I stand out from the norm because I am not here for nursing school. Just like men who attend TWU. They are definitely a different look. The fact of the matter is that TWU is diverse and has touched more than one type of person. The Grimm brothers show just that, furthermore that everyone should be treated equally and fair!
