As a young girl who loved reading, most of my role models were fictional characters from my books. And although there were many I looked up to, my favorite and the character that influenced me most is Sabrina Grimm from the Sisters Grimm series, written by Michael Buckley. The Sisters Grimm series was my favorite series for years; it was what first made me love reading. I used to get so excited every time a new book would come out; my mom and I would rush to the book store to buy it and I would finish it the same day. The main character in the series is Sabrina.…

This tale predates, and is likely the basis of, Perrault’s “Little Red Riding Hood”. There are multitudes of versions of “Little Red Riding Hood”, each with slight variations. “The Story of the Grandmother” is unique in the fact that it is the possibly the oldest written version, allowing the reader a glimpse at this famous tale’s origin. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm was popularly known as the “Grimms Brothers”, were characterized as one of the most dramatic writers in the 19th century. They were categorized by their short, simple sentences, colloquial language, and their well-organized approach to craft writings. Their writing was entitled Little Snow White, it was released in 1937 and it was about Snow White, a princess who falls into a deep, death-like rest after taking a bite from a poisoned apple. My impression about this narrative was an innocent little girl who had her step-mother hating her because of her beauty and kind-heart. The Little Snow-White by the Grimms Brothers is a fairy tale that reveals the goodness and the beauty of a little princess who is loved by all, however,…

After reading the Grimms’ brothers Cinderella, it is clear to me why fairytales were not written for children audiences. The part where the sisters cut off their feet to fit into the shoe was surprised me as I am used to the Disney version of Cinderella. I do like how all of the Grimm’s fairytales have been adapted into movies and other version by various authors and directors. I believe that it is amazing that a person can take someone else’s idea and create a whole other story that provides a different feel yet, keeps the most important themes and problems. The Grimms’ brothers are so very talented through their stories and have such an imagination.…

Introduction While it is noted that original fairytales tend to be darker and more frightening than recreated versions of the tales, there is a strikingly similar amount of violence and unhappiness within Hans Christian Anderson’s fairytale “The Little Mermaid” and Disney’s reimagining of the same story. At the same time, both fairytales and their reimagining’s are supposed to have a clear message, usually regarding some kind of moral value. Unlike the similar happenings of violence in the two versions of “The Little Mermaid” we are discussing, the morals of the two stories are vastly different. In this paper, I will be examining the similarities and differences regarding the violence, morality, and endings of H.C. Anderson’s “The Little Mermaid”…

During an individual’s childhood, everyone must have heard of numerous fairy tales such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Peter Pan and etc. A number of fairy tales have a particular message to the audience, such as Hansel and Gretel taught children not wander around, yet we listened to the stories we were told and never questioned them. As we got older and read the stories again, we can perceive that certain fairy tales can illustrate negative messages.
