Gridiron Gang: Movie Analysis

For this discussion board I tried to choose two movies that had a common story line which would create a much more interesting critique between the two. This will more so create a compare and contrast between the two movies I’ve chosen in my opinion just because they are in some ways similar. The Longest Yard and the Gridiron Gang are two movies both based on football being played by athletes who are incarcerated. The Longest Yard is a fiction movie and Gridiron Gang is a nonfiction movie. I was able to locate information on Gridiron gang in order to further understand its purpose on Wikipedia. What was said of the 2006 film “Gridiron Gang” is, “It is loosely based on the true story of the Kilpatrick Mustangs during the 1990 season, the very first in which they played eleven man football” (Wikipedia, 2006). Although directors make movies often times to impact people in different ways and the influence is real as they may affect the views of many regardless, when we are presented with history that influence is often times different. It’s like watching a scary movie, if you have two horror films both given the same quality rating, one fiction and the other nonfiction, which one would have the greater impact on you mentally? I would think it would have to be the one that is based on the true story just because it’s something that actually happened. What makes critiquing fiction and nonfiction movies so different in my opinion is that you critique fiction movies based off of quality alone and you critique nonfiction movies based off of quality and
