Greywater: Should Plants Use Grey Water?

Background Research Greywater is used water from sinks, baths, washing machines, and other water sources that we use to clean things, including ourselves. Basically any water other than toilet water that drains down the faucet after use from a household. They often contain traces of trash such as grease,hair, food, dirt, and some household cleaning products such as body wash. Even though it contains these materials, it is reusable, and we use it for watering our plants. Greywater can look dirty because of the materials it contains but it is proven to be safe and beneficial to the plants. Plants love it because it can be a great source of fertilizer. But the thing is, if greywater get released to the ocean, rivers, or lakes, it can become pollutants. Most of the school districts in California including Irvine use greywater to water the grass and garden. It is perfectly legal and the plants love it too. Greywater makes it possible to use your water twice, so it can help with the drought California’s currently facing. Using greywater can also reduce your water bill by half. There are a few guidelines when it comes to using greywater. You can’t store greywater for more than 24 hours because the nutrients will start to break down and cause bad smell.
