On Wednesday, March 8th, 2017 I observed Greyson. Greyson is a three-year old that attends daycare at an out of home daycare in Eden Prairie, MN; Miss Liz’s. Miss Liz has eight kids that range from age ten months to five-years old. While I observed, the daycare kids were having curriculum time, where they were read two books, went through their ABC’s, numbers, and did a coloring worksheet. All of this occurred at a large table. I sat behind Greyson as he sat at the table. I observed Greyson for approximately 25 minutes. Miss Liz first read the kids a story about Olivia, a pig. As she began to read, another little boy starts to cry. As he cried, Greyson giggled with his hands up at his face. Greyson put his head down on the table and rocked …show more content…
Greyson turned to watch a little girl sitting at the table across from him. She was talking to the boy next to her. He looked back at the book and then turned back to face me. He said, “Shh, shhh, shhhhh” and then he growled and turned back to the book. Greyson put his fingers in his mouth and slide down in his seat. He then quickly turned around and began to watch me write. I looked him in the eye, smiled and motioned him to turn around with my pointer finger. Greyson giggled and turned back to face the book. He was fidgeting with his hands and was not paying attention to the book until he heard the word ‘monster’. He looked up and began to intently follow along with the story. As he listened to the story, he put his chin on the table and opened and closed his mouth so that his head bobbed up and down. The little girl playing on the floor with the truck began to make loud …show more content…
Shamrock starts with the letter ‘S’. We are going to do a coloring worksheet with the letter ‘S’,” Miss Liz told the kids. “Miss Liz! What are we doing?” Greyson asked. Miss Liz passed out the worksheet and tubs of colored crayons. (The coloring sheet had pictures of things that started with the letter ‘S’ and instructions on what color to color the picture. Ex- Color the sled red.) Miss Liz went through each of the pictures and said what they were. “Sled, snake…” “Miss Liz what does this do? Miss Liz what does this do?” Greyson said in a whiny voice. “Okay let’s get started!” said Miss Liz, ignoring Greyson. “What do we ride down a hill on?” she asked. “Snow- sled!” Greyson shouted in reply. “Color the sled red,” instructed Miss Liz. “I’m not gunna color,” Greyson stated and then quickly said, “I want to color now.” “Greyson, find the color red to color your sled.” Miss Liz said. Greyson picked up an orange crayon from the crayon tub. “Look! Red! I found red!” he exclaimed. “Try again Greyson,” said Miss Liz. He grabbed a pink and then yellow crayon. Miss Liz picked up a red crayon. “This is red.” “Can I have it?” he asked. “No, you can find one in your tub,” replied Miss Liz. Greyson looked in his crayon tub and found a red crayon. “I found red!” he said, as he began to violently color the sled (going much outside of the lines). “I done red! Miss Liz I got
