This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

In viewing the Stroke of Insight video I found the introduction of Dr. Bolte Taylor’s speech to be interesting, yet not attention grabbing initially. However, her ability to incorporable the different visual aids, such as the real life human brain and her brain scan, these tools she used helped to spark my interest, and further hold my attention to her topic of brain disorders that were effecting both her and her brother. A few years ago my parents introduced me to one of the most watched television shows in the United States, "Grey's Anatomy." Though the show was mainly advertised to showcase the drama aspect of it, I was only drawn to its medical component and the extraordinary ways the producer of "Grey's Anatomy" presented the characters. The ways the doctors did everything they could to save their patients, especially when they were in unusual situations that required them to make use of techniques they have never thought of before was memorizing to me. The characters put babies back into their mother's wombs to "cook a little longer", cured a child's autoimmune disease with inactive HIV cells, and even dissected an "inoperable" tumor from woman's brain. These remarkable incidents are one of the sources of…

The subjugating of certain groups of peoples through stereotyping and enemy making is commonplace within American society. Unfortunately, even break-through, massively successful shows perpetuate this narrative, as shown with the television show Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad centers around a high school chemistry teacher, Walter White, as he “breaks bad” and becomes a methamphetamine dealer/ producer in attempts to help alleviate some of the financial burden put upon his family by his grim lung cancer diagnosis. While the show has been repeatedly herald as being among the greatest modern drama television series for its accurate portrayal of addicts and the downfall of a once respectable member of society, it falters in its portrayal of Latino…
