Baumbach and Gerwig first met on his 2010 film Greenberg, but did not become a couple until they filmed the 2012 movie Frances Ha. Although first-time-directors winning Academy awards is not as rare as people seem to think it is, it is impressive nonetheless. Greta Gerwig is the fifth woman in history to be nominated in the category of Best Director. Her achievements inspire women around the world, age not being a matter. She has made clear that her goal is to keep a more directorial career, and make more “woman films”; She describes them as movies about and revolving around women, honest, raw, accurate, and relatable movies. Besides this, Greta Gerwig mentions that she wants her achievements to be acknowledged as their own, not just because she is a woman. She wants her accomplishments to be acknowledged because of they’re worth and how hard she worked, not for the simple fact that she is a certain gender. She believes it is and would be a way to normalize women in the media, because there is not reason why it shouldn’t be. Gerwig’s movie, “Ladybird”, is a beautiful, raw, and authentic movie about the relationship between a mother and her daughter. Ladybird is a senior in high school, dealing with her plans for college, friendships, relationships, and her relationship with her family.
