There are several signs throughout the poem of “Beowulf” that shows Grendel’s Mother is the true monster. Though Grendel is dead, Grendel 's Mother still lives, and wants revenge for the death of her son. She enters Heorot and seizes a man, waking the other warriors. Frightened, she takes Grendel 's arm from its place under the roof, and leaves. Grendel’s Mother starts a battle against Beowulf. During the battle of Beowulf and her, she acts differently then what women were supposed to act. Grendel’s mother acted violent and aggressive, making signs that she was the true monster of this story. During this time, women were not suppose to act this way. She thought she was protecting her son but actually she was just putting herself in a bad position for others to look at.

During the battle between Beowulf and Grendel 's mother was trying to kill Beowulf several times but had never succeeded. Beowulf’s armor protects him from getting killed by Grendel’s Mother. All the strength Beowulf has helped him win the battle, including all the wargear he was wearing. Grendel’s mother would have defeated Beowulf several times during the battle if his armor not protected him. Grendel’s Mother thought she was just trying to save her son Grendel, but other people thought differently. Many thought she wasn 't acting the way a women should be acting during this time. She has been acting violent, aggressive and trying to challenge a man. Women usually acted the complete opposite but Grendel’s Mother acts the opposite of what that culture values in women.
