Books usually never similar to the movies. Movies tend to leave an abundance important details out considering that there's simply no time to fit it all in. The epic had countless details in it. In the epic, Beowulf is a valiant soldier who is in search of monstrosity, known as Grendel terrorizing Heorot. The movie Beowulf vs. Grendel (Gunnarrson 2005)is similar to the Beowulf (Heaney 2000)in many ways but there is a cultural shift between the two, as well as additional characters. Beowulf a powerful Geat from Geatland that traveled to Hrothgar that was in need for assistance to defeat the evil Grendel that was destroying the town. Beowulf is depicted as this impeccable human being that is preposterous strong and athletic. He also has some unquestionable unhuman like features. For example, no …show more content…
Grendel has a purpose to kill people in the movie. In the opening scenes Grendel was with his father when suddenly they were attacked by Hrothgar and his men. This could be understandable why he would want to kill the people that hurt him. There is a purpose for him to fight the people of herot. The fact is that Grendel is only fighting the people that have hurt him. So like the people that are kids or the people that is older don’t draw attention to Grendel. This is what happened to Beowulf when he wanted to fight Grendel when he first encounters him in the movie. Grendel refuses to fight Beowulf for the reason that he has done nothing to Grendel to hurt him.
The two Grendel's in comparison are not certainly alike. The Grendel in the book doesn’t have a purpose to kill people and in the movie the people of Heorot killed his father and he wants revenge. It is quite noticeable that in the book it is abundantly black and white. So it's either you’re good or you're evil. In the movie the townsmen were prejudice and automatically thought that Grendel and his father were both

Since the arrivals of the characters are pretty spread out between negative and positive, Grendel has his ups and downs. At the very beginning of the story, Grendel seems to be a decent character, and it does not seem like he is really out to get anyone. This is especially true when he is a child; he discusses the games he used to play when he was young. One of those games led to Grendel getting caught in the tree (Gardner 18). Then Hrothgar comes in, and the monster’s character somewhat devolves, because he begins to hate the king.…

The character of Grendel in the novel written by John Gardener is more of an elaborate character, opposed to the character of Grendel in the epic poem Beowulf who is more of a dull character. From the bat Grendel is introduced as a ravenous individual “...conceived by a pair of those monsters born of Cain, murderous creatures banished by God...” (The Gawain Poet ll. 20-22). His origin early reveals that he spawned from a murderous and savage human being from the biblical story, Cain and Abel. An excuse could be that Grendel does not understand that the humans do not think of this as a game like he does but that idea is immediately failed by Grendel’s capacity for rational and philosophical thought. He understands that what he is doing is wrong but he does not stop because being the homicidal monster is the identity that was given to him. In reality, his monstrosity is a tragedy of the story. He has nothing else in the story: a mother who does not speak to him and beady-eyed relatives. His only friend is “[his] shadow” (8) and his ache for identity mirrors his ache for a friend: if he is something identifiable then there is someone else out there who is like him, who he can find and to whom he can relate.…

Grendel is an innately evil demonic beast and his birthright is to be scorned by man as Cain’s evil offspring. As a result of this ostracism, he takes out his fury on the men in Heorot, killing whomever he can as his own form of warped vengeance stemming from a feeling of isolation as a born outcast. Despite Grendel’s misfortunes, which may garner sympathy from some, his actions are not justified by the situation he is in and, even in a violent, revenge-based society, Grendel is still the heartless beast the Danes see him as and his fate was well deserved. When Grendel is first introduced, he is actually described in a slightly sympathetic light.…
