“ Gregor Johann Mendel was born Johann Mendel on July 22, 1822, to Anton and
Rosine Mendel, on his family’s farm, in what was then Heinzendorf, Austria. He spent his early youth in that rural setting, until age 11, when a local schoolmaster who was impressed with his aptitude for learning recommended that he be sent to secondary school in Troppau to continue his education.” ( information via bio.com)
After Johann Graduated from the school in Troppua, he enrolled in a two year program at the University of Olmutz where he did quite well in his studies, particularly in science, and mathematics. He also tutored in his spare time to supplement his tuition. Due to illness he had to quite studies for a while, eventually graduating in 1843.
Johann then began studying to become a monk, and joined the Augustinian order at the

In 1849 Gregor was sent to teach in Znaim, but he failed the teaching certification exam the next year, so he was sent to continue his study of science at the University of Vienna. When
Gregor was at the University he studied mathematics, and physics under Christian Doppler, who the doppler effect wave frequency is named after. He studied botany with Franz Unger, who had studied with Charles Darwin. ( information via bio.com)
