His family cruel treatment and neglect causes Groger to self starve as he loses his appetite to eat.His family is hugely at fault because they saw him as a problem and were disgusted by him. He felt neglected and isolated which made him give up on himself. If his family had accepted him, since he didn't see care about turning into bug he would have not stopped eating. Gregor, himself is also responsible as he is the one who stop eating and no one forced him to starve. From the death scene only, the artistic movement that best best fits is Freudianism because he was think all night long that he wanted to go away and he dies even though he dies from starvation, it represent his wanting to stop being a burden and die. He didn't kill himself instead his body gave up from starvation but the reason he stop eating was because he didn't see the reason to live.

Not only was he not allowed out of his room, but his father would not come to take care of him or even consider him apart of the family anymore. Even before Gregor became a bug, there was not much interaction between Gregor and his father; Gregor was only useful to Mr. Samsa to help pay him pay off his debts. In his new state, he can no longer work and earn money thus contemplates the most about his new handicap. Gregor gradually begins to degrade himself, thinking that he really is an insect that only creates a burden on his family. This transformation is, in part, due to the new mentality his family views of him. His father, from the very beginning thought that his son was no longer in the world. Grete still had hope and showed the most compassion, but she too, had slowly stopped showing concern over the beetle who she determined is not her brother.…

This new change did not affect Gregor’s mind in any way. “Gregor’s concern at the time had been to do everything in his power to make his family forget as quickly as possible the commercial disaster that had begun to work with extreme enthusiasm that had reduced them to all complete righteousness” (Kafka 29). He constantly cared for his family well being, despite him being…

His physical transformation is not only a threat for his household, but also disgusts his employer, as is evidenced by the reaction of his manager: “The manager burst out with loud “oh!” – it sounded like a rush of wind- and now he could see him standing closest to the door, his hand pressed over his open mouth slowly backing away, as if repulsed by an indivisible and unrelenting force.” (Kafka 788) This toxic situation for Gregor alludes to the ruthlessness of the society and selfishness of his own family. Gregor’s metamorphosis into a “lowly insect” brings to light the stark reality that society and family is unwilling to accept individuals with a sense of self into their…

If the author would have not characterized Gregor to be this insect, the story would have not had the same plot. The plot is concentrated around the idea of Gregor becoming this insect, and how this formation affects his life and his families. The author can also use indirect characterization as a way to create the plot. Grete contributes to the plot when “...she felt sorry for her behavior, she immediately opened the door again and came in on tiptoes…”…

Slow Death Outsiders are considered to be those who are isolated and disconnected from others. Isolation can result in different tragic outcomes, such as one being depression and in other cases even worse like committing suicide. In the Modernist short story, The Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka portrays a character who is treated like a bug in his day to day life and continued to be treated this way into his actual physical transformation, which lead him to make a decision that ended his life. Gregor’s life before his transformation was very similar to one of a bug, no one cared about his human needs, and never took the time to pay attention to them. When Mr.Samsa’s business failed and Gregor took the job of a travel salesmen, it left him with…

Grete, realizing how her actions could be the cause of this, tries to justify her actions by saying “of course he didn’t eat anything for such a long time,” (Kafka, “The Metamorphosis,” 3,91). Although Grete originally took pride in the way she cared for Gregor, after time passed she took to neglecting him seemingly without a care. Along with not caring, she seemed oblivious to Gregor’s needs and wants as she seemingly lost interest in taking care of his well-being. The plot also develops as the Samsa family comes to terms with Gregor’s death and they are realizing that they have no money, no solid life and they need a new man of the house. If they wish to succeed without Gregor, they must step up to the base and hit the pitch that life is about to throw them.…
