Greg’s wife, Kathy, was murdered and almost a year later, Greg was arrested and charged. Greg Wilhoit spent five years of his life on death row after being convicted for murder. Prosecution sought the death penalty and he was condemned to die by lethal injection. After a jury found him guilty of first degree murder, he was later granted a new trial due to inconclusive evidence and the judge issued a verdict of innocence. The death penalty possibly risks the lives of innocent people, it fails to deter crime and costs taxpayers a higher cost than other alternatives. In 1972, the death penalty was ruled unconstitutional, however later reinstated in 1976.
