but can't because of his low math grade. In John Steinbeck’s
novel , “The Pearl” , an uneducated man named KIno found a great
pearl that ended up corrupting his values with greed and
destroyed his family. In both , ‘The Treasure of Lemon Brown”
and The Pearl , the main news experience conflicts that change
their new of what is important in life.

and hit those books”. Because Greg’s dad tells him to “hit those
books,” readers know that his dad values education more than
sports , adding to the conflict between them. This conflict is
the reason Greg leaves his house when it starts to rain , and as
a result , Greg runs to an abandoned building to avoid studying.
Greg’s decision leads to a chain of events that brings him to
someone new who changes his mind about values.
Greg’s conflict is resolved in a surprising way when a
homeless man named Lemon Brown shows Greg his treasure and tells
him about the son he lost. Greg pushed the button over the bell
marked ‘ Ridley ’ , thought of the lecture he knew his father
would give him , and smiled. Greg’s smile shows that his
conflict is resolved because he understands that his dad cares
about him as well as his education. Greg’s understanding in a
result of Lemon Brown’s story about his son , and he knows the
fathers are alike they both want the very best for their sons.
