Greenhouse seminar has helped me to adjust to the college atmosphere. The community was warm, welcoming and just what I needed to strengthen my writing skills for the duration of college. Through this term, I have: conducted experiments, analyzed ideas, written essays, reflected, read articles, peer-edited essays, proposed ideas, conducted interviews and volunteered. With all of these different exercises, I have made significant process in my writing process. Throughout this class I have learned how to: communicate effectively using writing, speech, and images, analyze ideas holistically, logically and creatively, access and effectively use information resources and demonstrate life skills that are necessary for proactive participation in collaborative …show more content…
An example would be the Road to Success essay. The Road to Success map was an image, that had a collection of stops to analyze and write about. I think I made significant progress on communicating effectively in the Road to Success essay; the first draft I submitted contained a bunch of comma splices, but when I was going back through, I started really looking at the sentences. I analyzed other parts of the paper to really improve the entire product. I have learned how to analyze ideas holistically, logically and creatively. Through the Campus Exploration essay, I learned all of these skills. First, I looked at the campus as a whole; the assignment required a significant amount of detail. Then, I looked at the paper to make sure my ideas were logical, and that they flowed together. Lastly, I made sure that there was a level of creativity to the paper. That it was not just, “the wall was red,” I wanted an exciting paper. This took a few drafts and a large amount of revision, but it was worth …show more content…
A specific example of how I learned this is through the Mulching study project. In the Mulching study, I was required to work in a collaborative environment. My group worked quickly and effectively to get the job done. I also learned about sustainability leadership through the Farm Consultant Letter. Prior to the biodiversity project, I had not looked into analyzing biodiversity. In doing the project on biodiversity, it taught me skills to lead others in sustainability. Through the Compost Data Communication project, I learned about civic engagement. After the study, I mentioned to other students how much our school was wasting. It not only got me to thinking, but it helped get my fellow students to think about their amount of waste as
