Jones and his Memphis Group which called the MG’s is one of the first racially integrated and biggest bands in 60’s. They are the house Band for Stax Record and Influenced in shaping the “Southern Soul” sound. Although they do not have vocalist of their own, the band released several albums and recorded many hits. Their best known hit is "Green Onions." The present of Booker T & the MG’s not only influenced the southern souls, but also shows the tolerant of racialism which caused big effect on the development of American’s popular music.

But according to Steve Cropper, the name of the track is named after the Green Badger's cat, Green Onions, whose way of walking inspired the tunes significant riff.
