1.0 Introduction
As Australia’s population is increasingly ageing, several challenges and opportunities are arising for organisations nation-wide (The Australian, 2016). Several potential problems in this business include the need for succession planning (D’Netto, 1995). As expressed in the article” Volunteering in Australia 2012”, by Volunteering Australia, this need is caused by the growing population and therefore increasing demand for volunteer-based organisations, “More volunteers are needed by the majority of organisations to meet the increasing demand for current programs (Volunteering Australia 2011a).” This brief focuses on the consequences of the ageing population mentioned in the article, investigates the costs and benefits of an ageing population and how this will impact the Green Frog Nursery.
2.0 Summary of the issue

This demographic change is encouraging organisations to modify their management structures and create succession plans in order to accommodate the increasing amount of volunteers (Camdus, 2006). A succession plan is a strategy used to ensure key roles are filled as new people take on these roles (Australian Government, 2016). The Australian Government explains, “A good succession plan will help your business transition smoothly...By planning your exit early, you can maximise the value of your business and help it to meet future needs (Australian Government, 2016).” In order to prepare for an ageing workforce, it is imperative that this business incorporates a succession
