When thinking about “artifacts” from my culture that were important to me as a child. The first thing that came to my mind was not my favorite video game, or an instrument I played, in fact the it was a chalkboard. The reason why this popped into my head was because I learned english on it. As far back as I can remember; I would spent what it seemed like all day on this chalkboard practicing writing words in spanish then writing the english translation underneath. Everyday my mom would write a sentence from her english learning books and I would have to write out the translation before doing anything fun. One other artifact was a skateboard, now this was actually given from my elementary school. They had a program where they would give kids christmas presents and only …show more content…
Seuss this is one of the first books I can remember that actually taught me something valuable. After the teacher read it, she gave a few moments to think about what is the overall meaning of the text. This was the first time I can ever remember when I have been asked this. For a few moments I thought to myself it was just supposed to be a silly read, something for entertainment what could this time teach me. Time was up and she asked for the whole class response and everyone responded “ Green Eggs and Ham” are gross. The teacher laugh at first but she made us understand that it is important to not say you do not like anything before trying them. Because in the book Sam I am suggested countless of things to pair the Green Eggs and Ham with and it was a no every single time from the unnamed character. This was one of the most useful things I ever taken from a book and that was in my childhood. That deeper understanding of what I thought was just a clever combination of rhyming words. Proved to be one of the first powerful message that I needed carry in not only my academic career but also outside of the

Unlike the literature I am required to read during the school year, the books that I read for pleasure are more focused on issues that can relate to one's actual life. The books I read for pleasure are more of a release. For example, I read "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel to get a better view on the idea of intangible belief and dry factuality. I enjoyed "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury because it provided a new perspective on the idea of censorship. I also read "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Of Mice and Men" in order to receive valuable insight on the idea of loss of innocence.…

The artefact that I have chosen is a wooden tablet with a system of glyph engravings called Rongorongo, specifically the Small Santiago Tablet. Rongorongo is one of the worlds rare undeciphered scripts which are comprised of lines of symbols, many of which are birds or other animal forms, engraved with every second line being upside down. The text is said to be read from left to right, bottom to top, which is also known as the reverse boustrophedon (Bahn, 1996). This famous enigma of Easter Island was first dated in 2003 with the use of the accelerator mass spectrometry technique and was concluded to have a 95% probability of being created in 1680 and 1740 AD (Orliac, 2005). They were discovered in the 19th century on the small island with…

The objects that I were assigned were the Bandolier bag from the Native American Delaware Tribe, and the Painted elk hide from the Easter Shoshone tribe. Bandolier bags were extremely popular among most Native American tribes, and each tribe expressed their culture through them in a different way. This particular Bandolier bag comes from the Delaware, or Lenape, Tribe. It is estimated that it was created around 1850 C.E., and is crafted with beads on leather hide. This object has two components to it, one being the shoulder drape and the other being the small bag.…

All of Dr. Seuss’ children books have one thing in common; teaching the readers a valuable lesson. For example, think about his popular book The Cat in The Hat, the kids welcome the cat in to their house and the cat ends up destroying the house and making a huge mess. The lesson hidden within this story is to be careful who you invite in to your life, they may cause big problems. Dr. Seuss is a very unique author; he successfully wrote children’s books with lessons within them that most adults never understand. Dr. Seuss knew that in order to change the world you need to help the younger generation understand the importance in doing the right thing, show respect to everyone around you, never be greedy, know your opinion matters, and stand up…

The first artifact is important to me is my pearl necklace. This necklace is my favorite; it’s made from strips of leather and has a pearl tied to it on the front with a beautiful blue stone tied to the back. One of the reasons it is important to me is because it was made by one of my best friends and her mom, who are very special to me and who I adore dearly. Another reason is because it was made for three of us so we all three have one and it represents our friendship and how good of friends we are. My necklace is important to me because it was handmade by one of my best friends for me her and another one of our best friends and it will always represent our friendship.…

The world is and always will be fearful of those who are unique; and this idea is well portrayed in one of the bestselling children’s book called, Green Eggs and Ham. Green Eggs and Ham, is written by the award-winning author, Dr. Seuss, the book is not just filled with rhymes and colorful illustrations. Nevertheless, it holds the dreadful truth about society within itself. The truth is that the public will throw itself under the bus just because they want to feel higher than those who are different. Through the analysis of the themes from Dr.Seuss's book Green Eggs and Ham, it can be said that the new title, "How The Fear of the Unknown Hinders…

"It 's a Beautiful Thing": Art, Culture, History and Humanity in George Orwell 's 1984 In 1984 George Orwell pulls readers into his horrific and at the same time awe- inspiring totalitarian society, dictated by a dystopian political system that builds a world on omnipresent surveillance, public manipulation, oppression, hatred, propaganda and "their sole motive, [which is] the quest for power" (Paul 215) . Due to the unconditional control the party has over Oceania, there is evidently a paucity of beauty, culture and history. Art plays a crucial part of humanity, history and our depiction of the truth.…
