The persona of the poem digs deeper into this thought, past the shell of the crab to break down the beauty that is contained in the compartments within the crab. He describes the beauty that is found within once it is opened up with the figurative image of, “A shocking, Giotto blue”. Even though this seems to be a mere color, it means much more. Giotto di Bondone was one of the first great painters of the renaissance who focused on painting nature. The color itself, created by Giotto, is a beautiful shade of blue. All people need to do is reveal it and give it a chance to. The common misconception is that as humans get older they begin to deteriorate and they lose their sense of purpose in life. Despite this misconception, what really happens is that people get so wrapped up in how they look on the outside or other peoples outside appearance that they miss their inner beauty within life. Amit Ray once said, “Beautify your inner dialogue. Beautify your inner world with love light and compassion. Life will be beautiful.” This is the reality of things as people grow older that they do not always see. Humans as a species spend so much of their life covering up what is inside their souls because of what others may think that it is never discovered until their final days, or even worse it is never discovered.
