The Greeks also go Christmas caroling, but they call it Kalanda. Children, mainly boys, of all ages go out singing Kalanda, Kalanda and caroling are the same exact thing, but caroling is in the United States. The children go out very very early in the morning on Christmas Eve. Many times people have answered their door before eight o’clock in the morning. The children often play instruments along the way. The Greek's Christmas is very very religious. The Greeks call their Santa Claus Saint Vasilis. After, they come home from the Midnight Mass they have a big feast to end their Advent Fast. They’re main dish for the Midnight Mass is usually lamb and/or pork. It’s also served with many side dishes such as, spinach and cheese pie and various salads and vegetables. A dessert that they usually serve is baklava. Like I said before the Greeks do this to end their Advent Fast.
In conclusion, Christmas in Greece have many different traditions. The Greeks go to Midnight Mass every Christmas Eve then come home for dinner. They also don’t always have just a Christmas tree in their homes. Greeks also go Kalanda, just like us in America but, we call it caroling. They do all these traditions during Christmas to keep the spirit of Christmas alive.
