Zeus, The King of Gods “The dice of Zeus always fall luckily” (Sophocles). Zeus is displayed in many different ways. Zeus is the King of Gods, the sky and thunder God, from Greek Mythology. Zeus was the youngest son of the Titans, Cronus and Rhea. When he was born, his father Cronus intended to swallow him as he had all of Zeus’s siblings: Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera. But Rhea hid the newborn in a cave on Mount Dicte in Crete. When Zeus grew up, he revolted against Cronus and the other Titans. After defeating them, he banished them to Tartarus. Zeus shortly became ruler, and married his sister Hera. Together they had three children: Ares, Hephaestus, and Eris. Hera was also a very jealous wife because Zeus always cheated on her. Apart from the kids Zeus had with Hera, he had many more with his mistresses. “In a form of an eagle, Zeus also abducted and ravished a woman called Aegina” (Devdutt). Like in this story and many others, Zeus would trick and manipulate women into sleeping with him. After Hera found out about Aegina, she killed every man in Aegina son’s kingdom. Hera is known to be jealous, “ Unable to control Zeus, Hera invariably turned her rage against his mistresses” (Devdutt). Hera couldn’t really control Zeus, so she would take her anger out on his mistresses. Hera would attack and try to kill his mistresses and their children. “ Zeus had a total of 92 children by some counts, though not all counts agree. Of these 92, 41 were divine and 51 were mortal” (Reference). Zeus had many children, many who grew up to be powerful leaders, and some who had felt Hera’s rage.
