Time and time again throughout Greek Mythology, some kind of huge conflict ensued because the Lord of the Sky just couldn’t resist the beauty of mortal women like Danaë, mother of Perseus, and Alcmene, mother of Hercules. These heroes can be found throughout Greek mythology. They were said to posess superhuman strength, among other things, though their power was never equal to that of the gods. Famous demigods include Hercules, Perseus, Achilles, and Aeneas. Demigods were much like the superheroes of ancient Greece, and stories abouth them continue even today through authors like Rick Riordian. Symbols that famously represent Zeus include the lightning bolt, the eagle, the bull, and the oak tree. Temples that were built by the Greeks in honor of Zeus, like the Parthenon, stand to this very day. Zeus embodied all of the ancient Greek ideals of strength, fertility, and power. Timeless tales of the power of Zeus and the other gods, like the Illiad, the Odessey, and the Aeneid have lasted through the ages and the translations, and today they can be bought in any bookstore. Stories that have lasted this long and survived this many different civilizations are powerful things, indeed. Myths about Zeus and his children have captured the imaginations of literally millions. And, while we may not take these stories as seriously as the ancient Greeks did, they are still useful in our society as moral
