The Greek Mythology is a Polytheistic religion. It was created in the era of Classical Greece, in 500 b.c.e. The Greek Gods were meant to offer explanations of natural phenomenon, human qualities, and life events. Each God of Goddess had their own unique abilities that helped with the explanations. They even had a king. Zeus was the king of the gods. He ruled at the top of Mount Olympus and wielded a weapon, The Lightning Bolt. Zeus had power over the sky, lightning, and thunder. His most popular symbol that he went by was the eagle, but he could also go by the thunderbolt, the bull, or the oak tree. He had power over the dead and all the riches that grew under the earth’s crust belonged to him. His most popular symbol was his helmet which allowed him to stay invisible. Hades most retold myth is when he abducted his wife Persephone. The story goes that Hades was lonely in his domain under the earth. He frequently looked up at the earth to see what transpired up there. One day he looked up and saw Persephone he instantly wanted to have her. Apollo and Artemis were twins. Apollo was the god of knowledge, light, prophecy, the arts, the sun, and manly beauty. His symbols included the bow and arrow, the lyre, the tripod, the laurel tree, and the navel stone. One of Apollo’s famous myths is his fight with the Python. Hera sent the python out to make sure Apollo and Artemis’s mother couldn’t give birth. Zeus pitying their mother turned her into a quail so she could give birth.
