The festival happens because people angered Artemis by killing a bear. At the festival, young girls would dress like bears to try to please her. This festival would be every sixth day of the month. Artemis also had her own temple. The temple of Artemisium in Ephesus was to be said one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. It held a statue of the goddess and was blending Greek and eastern influences. The statue was of Artemis with numerous breasts and legs covered with lions, oxen and other animals. The statue is now in a museum in Selcuk (goddess guide). The temple was built to honor Artemis the Greek goddess of moon and the hunt. It was built by King Croesus of Lydia and his son Metagenel. It was built in Asia Minor by a commercial crossroads which attracted a lot of visitors. It stood 377 feet by 180 feet with 127 ionic columns that stood sixty feet high. The temple shape was not a generic rectangle shape but a mixture of classic Greek and Near-Eastern design. It was made of marble and the statue of Artemis was not big but life sized and stood on a marble pedestal. Now the temple of Artemis barely remains as its was discovered in 1869 Several things were excavated and can be seen at the British museum in London. As where the temple was, the only thing that stands is a lonely column as a reminder of the temple of Artemis
