The first stage of man was the Golden Age. During this time there was prosperity and peace, and all living things lived together in harmony. No one would grow old, and when their time on earth was done, death always came during sleep and with no pain. However the ten year war of the gods and titans, called the Titanomachy, ended the golden age (Five Ages of Man). Next came the Silver Age. According to Greek mythology, the heaven and the earth created the titans, who then created the gods. This is different from most religions and myths, because generally you see the gods creating the heavens and the earth. The gods of greek mythology then created mankind, enlisting the help of the titans Prometheus and Epimetheus. Mankind went through five stages consisting of the Golden, Silver, Bronze, Heroic, and Iron Ages. Sometime in the middle of the ages of men, Pandora was sent to the world as a curse. She unleashed evil upon the world, but she introduced hope as well. To end the Bronze Age there was a Great Flood that was sent by Zeus. Greek mythology is beautiful in comparison to other forms of mythology common at the time. Rather than putting fear into the people of the time, the Greeks make mankind the center of attention. This gives a sense of importance and security to the people. Edith Hamilton calls this the “Greek Miracle”
