Coming to God of War, the game, he is the villain. He is portrayed as an evil sadistic god who takes pleasure in going on a rampage, killing thousands of mortals and torturing other gods. He makes an agreement with Kratos to spare his life in exchange for his soul. Another change to be noted is that although the basic role of Greek gods and mortals remains the same, their actions are in some way modified to make the game more interesting and playable. For example, Furies, which were born from the severed genitals of Uranus (Ouranos), are instead born from the fights of primordials with others. Also Horkos, as in Hesiod’s Theogony, who is the personification of the promises and oaths is shown to be the son of a completely new set of people and goes easy on Kratos oath breaking as opposed to what the original text says. He is also covered with scorching hot embers in which the rule deifiers are put in order to punish them. Pandora’s box as the myth says, opened up and either offered hope for mankind or evil to perish all of it. In the game, Pandora’s box serves a whole another purpose.
