Too often, I hear or see others put their organizations before others; it seems like people are frequently ranking or evaluating others. Greek Life is a community. In order to be strong individually, we need to be strong together. Having the opportunity to help others while getting to know members of the Greek community would be so rewarding. Sometimes, there is a negative stigma surrounding Greek Life, but through working with other Greek-affiliated individuals, we would be able to demonstrate just how positive of an impact that the Greek community as. Being able to unite to help a common cause truly represents what it means to be a community. In the early years, I was passionate about the Special Olympics and cancer research, but I was never really exposed to hunger or health issues that often arise in impoverished conditions. When I went to San Francisco with my family for the first time in middle school, I was horrified at what I saw on the streets. Through seeing how some others lived, I felt guilty for having what I had and knowing that kids just like me were growing up in such atrocious circumstances. Because of this experience, I became very interested in poverty and global hunger. In following years, I participated in a hunger walk, volunteered at a food pantry, and was stationed at Windham Area Interfaith Ministry to serve on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.
Between my passion to help others and the positive attitude that I take with me wherever I go, I believe I will be able to help cultivate enthusiasm and motivation within the group of participants. Being able to look at a task as necessary or productive instead of just “work” goes a long way. My eagerness to meet and connect with others would also be an asset for relationship building. I possess a true concern for others, which I anticipate would help in both attaching meaning to the tasks we complete and in forming connections with other

Through the thousands of students involved in Greek Life, we have the ability to reach so many others across campus. Promoting discussion about social justice topics and commendable behavior like inclusive language and diversity awareness can really take on a new level of prominence at UConn if the Greek Community adopts and represents social justice values. Within the Greek Community, having an understanding of and appreciation for diversity in terms of different organizations’ membership (IGC, NPHC, etc), can be a starting place to encourage social change. If the Greek Community is able to adopt and explicitly demonstrate social justice values, the community, both locally and in farther distances, will see those values. Exposure to social justice issues is a concept that is necessary for change to take place. Change has to start somewhere, and through the connections that Greek-affiliates have, a real impact can be

When I was first introduced to Lambda Theta Phi Latino Fraternity Inc., certain aspects of the organization caught my attention. First and foremost, the organization promotes unity within the Latino community. Being united as Latinos is essential because together we acquire great accomplishments for the betterment of the community as well as ourselves. Moreover, being united provides the opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities as Latinos and break the barriers society has imposed upon us. For me, being able to interact with Latinos at UNCG, through this organization, and having the opportunity to meet individuals who demonstrate valuable character is of great importance.…

Ancient Greece can be traced back to the Stone Age hunters (6000-2900 B.C.); however, Greek culture was much more notable from 1100-146 B.C., and likely had a more profound impact on Western civilization than any other culture.
