The human form has been depicted and advanced in many forms numerous times throughout history. It also reflects to a certain period and culture that shows the sculptures significant attributes which tells the viewer what people appreciated and how they represented it through art. I have notice a change in the body forms during the Archaic period, Classical Period, and the Roman empire. When it comes to the human form, it is always changing and the best way to see it by looking at sculptures.

The City-state would set up for citizens to gather and participate in urban discourse and was restricted to adult men. Women, boys and slaves could not participate fully in the culture. They focused their sculptures for display and respect of the gods. Their human form sculptures are different to the Athens, they are more human like with realistic posture. An example would be Polycleitus’s Doryphores (450-440 BCE.), which in Greece is the ideal form of a perfect human body. The body has mathematical precision and proportions on every part of the body. What’s really fascinating about this art work is how realistic the person is standing. This is called contrapposto, where its shifting the weight on one side of the body.
