(A Discussion of My Favorite Greek Gods)
It was once said by Kelly Keaton in, A Beautiful Evil, “There is power within great sacrifice, within noble deeds. There are moments...brief, shining moments when the impossible becomes possible.” Let this quote transport us back into the magic of Greek myths, based on Edith Hamilton’s book, Mythology. Greek gods and goddesses have made a huge impact and inspiration to the world, transcending all generations. As always, each unique person has their own unique favorites. Let these arguments give you the understanding as to which Greek gods are best. Personally, the three ultimate Greek gods are Hephaestus, Apollo, and Zeus due to their contributions, lifestyles, and character.

To begin with, Apollo is the god of music, which is an aspect of life that fuels the soul. Many people would struggle to live without music, no matter how few miniscule moments that they enjoy it. Apollo also is astonishingly creative with his punishments for mortals that dispute with him. On page 293 of Edith Hamilton’s Mythology, it is told of Midas judging Apollo against Pan in a music contest, “He was chosen as one of the umpires in the musical contest between Apollo and Pan...Midas, no more intelligent musically in any other way, honestly preferred Pan...And so he got his asses’ ears. Apollo said that he was merely giving to ears so dull and dense the proper shape.” Above all else, Apollo graced humanity with the gift of medicine and healing. This gift is at least equal, if not twice as significant as the gift of fire from Prometheus. Zeus survived the cruel barbaric nature of his father Cronus, only to return with the courage to rally and unite his brothers against their tyrannical father. On page 68 of Edith Hamilton’s Mythology, the story is told, “There followed a terrible war between Cronus, helped by his brother Titans, against Zeus with his five brothers and sisters-a war that almost wrecked the universe.” Zeus also brings the blessed rains to the Grecian crops. This made him a necessity for survival. The primary reason Zeus is the number one Greek God, is the fact that he is not omnipotent. Throughout history, we always expect perfection from our leaders. However the truly great leaders are capable of acknowledging their faults, and doing their best. Zeus being imperfect made him more relatable and realistic to the Greeks.
