If I were to trace the history of the world through six items of one category, I would choose sports. Throughout the first period, in Mesopotamia and Egypt, evidence also shows that people of this time period played a sport known as Skittles. The objective of the game is very similar to the objectives of regular ten-pin bowling. The player is supposed to hit a specific one or all of the prolate spheroid balls (or skittles.) People also often participated in friendly, competitive sports centered on running and throwing. Throughout the second period, in Rome and Greece, people played Pale (or Greek Wrestling) and chariot racing. Greek Wrestling was the most common and popular sport in Ancient Greece. Throughout the third period, or the Colonial period, the sport of Lacrosse was very popular. They used a malformed stick, a leather ball stuffed with materials such as hair, and two trees used as goal boundaries. The game consisted of the ball being tossed and caught using the stick while running toward their team’s goal. During the fourth period or Age of Reason, people played the Mesoamerican Ballgame. This game became globally famous when Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés sent a group of ballplayers to perform for Charles the fifth, but they ended up with German Christoph Weiditz. After they performed, the Europeans became fascinated with the rubber balls they used, hence the spread of the game. The game is played with a rubber about the size of a soccer ball, players attempt to bounce the ball without using their hands through stone hoops attached to the sides of the ball court. During the fifth period, or the British Empire, the game Rugby became wildly popular. This game is played with two teams with fifteen player each. Both teams carry, pass or kick the ball to the end zone to score as many points as possible. The team scoring the greater number of points is the winner of the match.
