The war fought between July 28 of 1914 and November 11 of 1918 was known as “The Great War”, “The War to End All Wars” and many more. It was a 4 year war with a massive number of casualties, counting into the millions. There were two sides in this war: The Allies, consisting of France, Great Britain, Italy, Russia, and later the United States, and the Central Powers, consisting of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman-Empire. Many other small nations joined each side for their own benefits and treaties. For example, in the Pacific Japan, they saw chance to seize German colonies, so they joined with the Allies. This war is known for its unique form of warfare: trench warfare. This was an extensive system of trenches in which the enemy fought
