Great Value is a brand for Walmart that provides a Bathroom Cleaner, Glass and Surface Cleaner that is eco-friendly at an affordable cost. These products are 99% naturally derived and are considered to be green products that were created to reduce environmental impact. The bathroom cleaner is great for use on tubs, showers, sinks, ceramic tiles, toilets, stainless steel, chrome and more. This information can be easily read on the front and back labels on each product. The label and packaging also use the green color as an indicator to the customer that this is a green product. In addition to the green color the text "99% Naturally Derived" stands out on a green background on the front side of all products. The EcoLogo is also visible on the bottom right-hand corner on the backside label of all green products along with the certified message "Product certified for reduced environmental impact". Walmart Canada is the company that provides these products to their customers under their patented brand Great Value. What started small, with a single discount store and the simple idea of selling more for less, has grown over the last 50 years into the largest retailer in the world. Walmart Canada was established in 1994 through the acquisition of the Woolco chain and has grown to more than 400 stores nationwide serving more than 1.2 million customers every day. In 2015, Walmart Canada stores were powered with 20,004 MWh of green electricity and through a $16.8 million investment in that same year, 110 Walmart Canada stores were retrofitted with LED lights. This leads to a reduction of Walmart Canada’s greenhouse gas emission by 28,000 tons of C02 annually. In addition, in November 2010, Walmart Canada opened its sustainable Balzac Fresh Food Distribution Centre, a facility that uses hydrogen fuel cells to power forklifts as well as solar, thermal and wind power. One of Walmart’s three global sustainability goals is to create zero waste across its operations. Walmart Canada has programs in place to divert more than a dozen waste-streams from the landfill. Walmart Canada now diverts 80 percent of its operational waste. For final category Walmart partners with the suppliers and NGO stakeholders, Walmart is working hard to exceed those expectations. They are making sustainability an essential part of how they source merchandise around the world.
