The Great Towers of London The Tower of London is a series of buildings with dark histories. The Tower is the most notorious building in the Medieval Times. The tower was built about 1,000 years ago and was built by a very well known conqueror. In the early 1080’s, William the conqueror began to build the Tower of London. (“Tower of London”) Before the tower was built, William decided that the name should be “Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress” (The Tower of London). The first foundation to the building was laid in 1078. (Kathy McGillick.) When the tower was finished with construction the tower kept receiving improvements and additions. After a few years after the tower was done with construction, it became an all purpose building. …show more content…
William the Duke of Normandy was the who decided to build the Tower of London (“Tower of London”.). Edward II extended the part way along the riverfront to help with loading and unloading goods, especially military materials and supplies for the Hundred Year War (“Tower of London”.). Richard III was said to of murdered Prince Henry VI age 12 and his younger brother age 10. The bodies were found in 1674 under the main staircase in the White Towers (“Tower of London”). Queen Elizabeth I was imprisoned by her own sister Queen Mary I in the towers basement (“Tower of London”). When the remains were found of the two boys the tower was called the “Bloody Tower”. It was an honor to have been beheaded inside the towers because most people were executed outside the towers on “Tower Hill”. It is in the chapel that most of these who died on Tower Hill were laid to rest under flagstones without a ceremony or any recognition. Another tower that is location on the Tower Hill is the Green Towers. The Green Tower is where two of King Henry III had some of his queens and several other people at his quest to be beheaded (Kathy McGillick.). The White Tower is where most of the murders were taken
