The first step in family involvement is examining personal values. At the beginning of the year Katie should have recognized her fear of speaking with parents. Katie mentioned many times that she was uncomfortable with speaking to the parents and also mentioned how it would take to much time to speak with them. The author gives the reader 20 different tips, tricks, and reminders to help strengthen what is already taking place, or to help implement co-teaching into the classroom. The author also does a great job at addressing multiple different subtopics such as planning, assessment, enhancing the partnership, extending your reach, and maintaining perspective.
When reading through the article number ten really stood out to me. When thinking about co-teaching, I often wondered how you would let the students, and parents know there are two different teachers in the classroom, yet they both hold the same responsibilities and they both are teachers. I think number ten gives a great example by simply making sure both teachers names are on the report cards or on the door it is a parity signal that allows parents and students to understand the dynamic of teaching that is taking place in the classroom. If I were to co-teach in my future classroom I also think writing notes home and weekly newsletters should come from both teachers which is just another way to confirm the dynamic of
