Great Impact Theory: The Formation Of The Moon

Over the course of time, people created theories to explain how the moon was created. These five theories are the following most popular. The first theory is the Capture theory states that the Moon was pulled in by the gravitational pull of the Earth. The next theorem, which is the Fission theory that the moon was torn off of Earth as it was spinning real fast as there was a natural nuclear explosion. The Co- formation theory is that the Moon formed near the Earth and was helped by the dust and gas of the near by planets. The Colliding Planetesimals theory is when the debris compacted together after the planetesimals were slammed together after the beginning of the universe. The last of the theories is the Great Impact theory, which involves a planet sized-body colliding into the new Earth allowing a part of the rock to let loose it’s hold on Earth. The basic explanation of the theory is that the moon (or material) that is blasted into the universe after a planet-sized body slammed into the Earth. This would have happened about 4.4 billion years ago. The planet’s size would have been about the size of Mars, which is 4,220 miles in diameter. Though in another study in 2012, it states that impactor and the target --new, still growing Earth-- are about 50 percent as massive as the Earth is today. The Moon didn’t go farther in space because of the gravitational pull that the Earth had against the Moon. It gives us an idea of what the composition and the orbit of the planet would be, but the theory is still gaining more information as the scientists are researching it,
