Great Gatsby Thematic Message

In F.Scott Fitzgerald the Great gatsby, the author conveys the thematic message that the American dream is less about building yourself up, but more about the ruthless pursuit of the dollar. Meaning that instead of wanting to be a better person and work on themselves.they are just doing things for the money not caring about what they have to do in order to get where they have to get. The Gatsby mansion symbolizes how Jay Gatsby uses his “newly money” to buy the mansion he has to be able to show the love he has for Daisy back and to be able to rivaled with people and houses in the East egg that had taken daisy away instead of doing it to build himself up. For example when Tom and Daisy get to the party that Gatsby invited them in his mansion Gatsby says “ You must see the faces of many people you’ve heard about” [pg.104]shows how Gatsby has a lot of people who are famous trying be seen as a more important person. another example would be of how his mansion was “We went up-stairs, through period bedrooms swathed in rose and lavender silk and vivid with new flowers, through dressing-rooms and pool rooms, and bathrooms with sunken baths,”[pg.91]This helps convey how everything was so elegant and expensive to only make himself look even more
