So many times in life we have regrets. Things that we wish we could undo, or something that we could go back and do. "Some women will regret having had an abortion, just as some will regret having a baby, getting married, dropping out of school, or a thousand other life choices that people make.” (Talbot). Each human being makes thousands upon thousands of decisions a day, whether it’s which way to walk, or what shirt to wear. So many opportunities to make a decision and so many times we look back and think twice. We can’t go back in our past and fix something that happened a while ago. In this story, The Great Gatsby, by Francis Scott Key, there are three big messages that all have to do with regret and wishing to go back to your past.
The first life lesson in The Great Gatsby, by Francis Scott Key, is that money can’t buy your love. No matter how much money you have and want to bribe somebody with, they will never love you to the fullest. You will always remember your past, no matter how hard you try to forget. Whether it happened seven years ago, or just the other day. Especially, if it is something really big and tragic. “Whatever it is, moving on can be tough.” (JD). Many people try, usually it’s the hard things and the things that caused them pain, are the things they want to forget. It is tough and it is hard to just leave your past behind like it’s nothing. In The Great Gatsby, by Francis Scott Key, he says, “I couldn’t sleep all night…” (147). He keeps thinking about his past, things he is happy about, or things that he regretted. Everything you do or did, you did for a reason, and it has a meaning to you
