H. English 10 I read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The book is read through Nick Carraway’s eyes as he experiences his new life in New York. Throughout the book, Nick regularly attended house parties and meets a great deal of people. These factors made up the book, as it tells the story of Jay Gatsby. The author titled the book The Great Gatsby, but what made Jay Gatsby so great? Let's start with the characters of The Great Gatsby. I believe the most important characters include Jay Gatsby, Nick Carraway, Daisy Buchanan, Tom Buchanan, and Jordan Baker. These are the round characters. These characters are fully explained, developed, and described by Nick. I feel like these people are so important to the

The story was written in first person through the eyes of Nick Carraway. It made a huge effect on the story by having it read through Nick instead of any other character. It would have changed the book a lot though if it was written in third-person. I would not have wanted to hear the emotions or what people were thinking the whole book. It was way better written in first person rather than third. In my opinion, Nick did a very good job of talking about Gatsby and this really helps when talking about Jay being “great”, but why was he “great” written this way?.
To start, if the book was written in third person, there would not be as great of an effect on Gatsby. I would have had to hear how everyone felt about him and it would have been really hard to decide what made Gatsby “great”. It would have been hard because I would have taken everyone's feelings toward him, compared them, and written about that. Written in first person though, it made it easy to determine what made him great because there was only one thought about him. You either think he is great or not based on what Nick

The author chose Nick for a reason, and that was because he was a newcomer to West Egg, not knowing anyone but Daisy. He chose this so that the reader could see the change that Nick had during the story. If the book was written in Tom Buchanan’s eyes, the thoughts toward Jay Gatsby would be entirely different and the title would not be The Great Gatsby. If it was written in Daisy’s eyes, the story would talk about how Gatsby in a more loving and scared kind of way, more like a deeper drama story. The title would definitely not be the way it is.
The author did a very good job of choosing first person through Nick’s eyes and really emphasized why Jay Gatsby is “great”.
The writing style didn’t impact the way Gatsby is “great” as much as the other reasons, but can be seen in the book emphasizing Jay. The vocabulary that Nick was using throughout the book was very delicate. It was confusing at time, but when having Google by you, you can see how well the vocabulary was used when talking about
