In the Great Gatsby Nick and Gatsby have genuine regard for each other, but there are hints of doubts in their relationship. At one point Nick was upset at Gatsby for running over Myrtle, calling Gatsby a “coward”, But then Gatsby told the truth that it was Daisy and then he explains Nick the truth of his past. Then Nick starts to understand and sees Gatsby as a friend, in this quote chapter 8, page 154 Nick says to Gatsby “ They’re a rotten crowd…, you’re worth the whole damn bunch put together.” Even though both knew each other for a little bit, Nick knew who Gatsby was and he still decided to stick by him. …show more content…
For example in chapter 3, page 4, Nick says “Sometimes they came and went without having met Gatsby at all, came for the party with a simplicity of heart that was it’s own ticket of admission.” What Nick is trying to say is that the house guests invited themselves into the party without knowing who the host was. Only some people knew Gatsby, but they didn’t know him in a way that they could go and call him randomly, or go and hang out with him. No one came to Gatsby’s funeral, they only cared more about his wealth than Gatsby
