The analysis of three narrative modes
3.1 The mode of internal- focalization
The most of plot in “the great Gatsby” have adopted the first person’s mode of internal- focalization approach. In this film, Nick’s most important mission is as a narrator of the story. he led the audience know Gatsby, Tom, Daisy and their neighbors, friends, let the audience feel like being in the "real world", into the film's story being.
In addition to the first person, mode of internal- focalization can also be used by second person or third person. When Gatsby first met Nick, a section of the second-person monologue also began. In this plot, the film focus on Gatsby’s smile, let audience have a feeling of being there with a second person approach, as if had a conversation with Gatsby. This is important for character portrayed.
3.2 The mode of entire-focalization
Many of the scenes in the film are not able to use the first-person description, especially some scenes of portraiture of people inside. For example, when Gatsby and Daisy met again, Gatsby intently watched the place Daisy lived in, that kind of nervous but a little indescribable of joy was described vividly.
