Great Expectations Pip Analysis

Pip influenced several characters in Dickens' Great Expectations, because of the way he treated them. The character of Pip changes throughout the story, mainly because of his social ladder; from being at the bottom rung to going to the top of the rung. He changed both physically and mentally, from being an innocent boy to an arrogant man. Also, he realized at the end of the story, that how he treated the people that cared for him like nothing, was absolutely wrong. This had an influence on many of the characters and how they felt about Pip, including main characters; Joe, Uncle Pumblechook and Estella.
At first, Pip and Joe were good friends, since they both were treated the same from Mrs. Joe. Neither one of them were very intelligent, so Mrs. Joe treated them like nothing, nevertheless, they were both okay and continent with their lives. Pip admired Joe and everything he did, even the simplest of things, he took joy in learning and talking to Joe each and everyday. Then he finds out that Estella went to London for school and was no longer living with Miss Havisham. Then Pip goes to London for school and tries to catch up with her, but never really does. He thinks that Miss Havisham is the one that gave him the money, so he could marry Estella. This is the farthest thing from the truth, but Pip is to ignorant to know better, so he keeps trying to get Estella. Then when he goes home for Mrs. Joe’s funeral, he finds out Estella is going to marry Drummle and Pip is very upset.
