As I read pages 8-9, found out what life was like during the Great Depression. First, I got imagery of a Hooverville in Seattle. As if the passage was a window, I got to imagine the sewage and the mudflats of the town. Since ten million people did not have a job, in my mind, I saw homeless families littered throughout the town. I saw families rummaging through their house for some change for food. On page 9, the author says families would have nearly empty mason jars and strongboxes that use to have their life savings. As I would read these pages, I would try to imagine myself during this time period.
