Bristlecone pine
The Bristlecone Pine has a great root system allows it to capture as much water as it can since there’s not a lot of precipitation in the Great Basin. The needles can be on a tree for 40 years compared to others which only live for the max of five years. This means it can save energy and won’t have to constantly replenish its needles. Bristlecone pines put space between themselves and other trees which is important when lightning hits another tree and fires can’t spread. Growing in rocky areas also helps the Bristlecone from catching fires. It naturally grows very slowly because its main focus is survival.

It can be resistant to those feeding on it because of its rough texture on the upper side of the leaf. By going into dormant, the Western Wheatgrass can make itself become fire resistant. They’ve also adapted to many different climates such as flooding, fires, droughts, hot, etc.

Temperate Cold Coniferous Forest
Ponderosa Pine
The bark on the outside of the tree is thicker to resist fires. It has a taproot connecting it to other plants and allows it to soak up lots of water which is especially helpful during droughts. As time goes on the tree itself will get rid of lower branches to prevent fires from growing
